Can I appeal my results?

Appealing the result of the writing test

When you appeal the result of the writing test, your new result may be:

• the same as before.
• lower than before.
• higher than before.

You cannot appeal again after you have received the result of the complaint procedure.

If you don't get a better result, you'll be told what criteria prevented you from getting a higher result. This means that you are informed about whether you need to improve for instance your text structure, orthography, punctuation, vocabulary or grammar. You can read more about these criteria in the assessment form used by the raters (in Norwegian only).

Your original result is set by either two or three raters. If you appeal, your response will automatically be sent to a new set of raters. If your original result was B1 and it is still B1 after the appeal process, four to six raters in total have agreed that your response is at a B1 level.

Deadline for appealing the result

The deadline for appealing the writing test is the 19th of November if you took the test in September.

The deadline is always four weeks after the result has been released.

How to appeal

If you want to appeal the result of the writing test, there are several ways you can do this. You can use a digital form, or you can send us your appeal by post.

You can appeal from the time you receive the result until the appeal deadline.

You can use our appeal form and submit your appeal digitally:

Send an appeal about the result. The appeal form will be available when results are released.

You can also appeal from “Min side”. After logging in, you will find a link to information about appeals at the bottom of the page. Where it says "Vil du registrere en klage?”, click on the link that says "klikk her". (Only available in Norwegian.)

Send your appeal by post

You can send your appeal as a letter in the mail. Remember to include both your name and candidate number in the letter.

Response to the appeal

It usually takes 4-6 weeks for you to receive a response to your appeal. If there are many people submitting appeals at the same time, it may take a little longer.

Appealing procedural errors

Procedural errors include technical errors on the day of the test that you think may have affected your results. The appeal deadline is three weeks after taking the test. You need to appeal to the test centre where you took the test.

Appealing a decision of cheating

If you are caught cheating, you will receive a formal decision. You may lodge an appeal against this decision.

If the decision is sent to you by the test centre where you took the test, you should send your appeal to the test centre.

If the decision is sent to you by HK-dir, you should send your appeal to HK-dir.

If your appeal is unsuccessful, it will be forwarded to the county governor (statsforvalteren).

Take another test

If you are not satisfied with your result, you can sign up for a new test. You will have to pay to take the new test.

Do you plan to register for a new test before you have received an answer to your appeal? If your appeal resulted in a higher grade, and you do not want to resit the test, you must still pay for the test that you registered for.
